Crescendos in Blue is more than just a love story. It is the creation of a whole world where fish swim down water pipes, sunlight is diffused into droplets, mice speak and rooms expand and contract depending on the mood. A world that twists and turns around the sensual rhythms of Jazz and distorts itself with the laughter, the fears and the growing desperation of the characters.

Six actors and five musicians depict the wonderfully distorted world of Colin and Chloe in this unique production which sees the revival of a French classic for an unsuspecting Anglophone audience.

The play will be introduced each evening by Dr. Carole Bourne-Taylor (University of Oxford), specialist in 20th century French Literature to discuss and unravel further Boris Vian's poetic use of the French language.

“The surreal is not an escape, it is a re-conquest of reality and all its more enigmatic and stupefying aspects. Tonight, we shall be confronted with a grotesquely magnified world and distorted picture of a schizophrenic world, and yet it should provide a catharsis through shock-therapy.” - Extract from introductory talk by Dr Carole Bourne-Taylor

“From the actors, the music, the ‘mise en scene’, everything was perfect. So much talent!! Time will tell, tonight was historical!” - Audience Feedback Questionnaire
